The billboards along the highway call it the City of Life, so apparently that is how the Chamber of Commerce wants it known. It once was known as the Venice of Asia because of all the c****s. There's not much point in us describing BKK at this time because it is way too big a place for us to comprehend -- 10 million people. Yesterday we took the night bus here from Phuket. Our tickets cost B950 each. We are in a modern one story hotel called Charlie Place (not Charlie's Place), which is back down an alley off Pin Klao road in Thonburi. Thonburi is supposed to be an older city that was here before Bangkok was built. It's on the northwest corner of metro Bangkok across the Chao Phraya River from the main part of town. Our hotel is in an isolated tropical tree shaded compound about a 1/2 kilometer back from the busy/noisy/exhaust fume clouded Pin Klao highway. The neighborhood is a warren of narrow alleys called soi and c****s. There are at least a couple ways to get to our hotel from the road but both are narrow soi, barely wide enough for one car, crossing narrow c****s. If you had a small boat you could come by the ...
